While we are from different backgrounds, we come together because of the common understanding on what has to be done to make our communities better prepared.

ALAINE FIGUERAS, Program Director

Alaine manages the overall operations of the foundation, in coordination with the Executive committee and Board of Trustees. She graduated from UP Diliman with a degree in BS Community Development, and has worked with several people’s organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and corporate foundations.

SHEENA PEÑA, Communications Specialist

Sheena is a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in AB Psychology. She worked in a major TV network as a Social Media Specialist for several years and eventually found a passion for development work. As SAFER’s Communications Specialist, she is in charge of the organization’s social media, website, and overall execution of the communication plan, with the goal of writing inspiring stories on Filipino resiliency and highlighting SAFER’s efforts in localization.

BONG MASAGCA, Executive Committee Member

Esteban Masagca (Bong) is the Executive Director of People’s Disaster Risk Reduction Network, Inc. He is a trainer, facilitator and speaker on DRRM among rural and urban poor communities, networks, and local government units. As a Sectoral Representative of the Victims of Disasters and Calamities (VDC) Sector of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) from 2005-2010, he contributed to pushing for the passage of Republic Act 10121, the Philippines Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

JEANIE CURIANO, Executive Committee Member

Jeanie, a public health professional, has been working in the humanitarian and development sectors for more than 20 years now. Apart from leading NASSA/Caritas Philippines’ Humanitarian Department, she’s also representing the national Caritas in the Sectoral Working Group on Accountability, Protection Mainstreaming, Real-time Evaluation and Safeguarding of Caritas Internationalis. She also advocated for the institutionalization of Community-led Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (CMEAL) at NASSA/Caritas Philippines and the Diocesan Social Action Centers, to improve the delivery of services of the Catholic Church in general, and to strengthen stakeholder engagement in the partner communities of the different Caritas organizations in the country. She’s likewise a national and international trainer, assessor and evaluator.


GIGI ARROYO, Executive Committee Member

Maria Lourdes Arroyo, better known as Gigi, always strived for learning. After working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, she pursued her studies, taking a Master’s Degree at the University of the Philippines School of Labor and Industry Relations.  She briefly worked for the Occupational Safety and Health Center as its Budget Officer. Gigi found her calling for social development when she had the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) as her client. She joined the NGO and became the CFO/ Group Director for Finance and Administration. She is currently CODE-NGO’s Finance and Administration Manager.
