Last December 1, 2018, SAFER Foundation partnered with Word of Mouth for a night of raw and honest stories on ‘Survival’. The event was held in Hineleban Café, Makati. Tales ranged from trying to live the American Dream to rescuing survivors from Marawi.
Some of the memorable quotes include (names not included for confidentiality):
“I survived the insanity. I am here telling the priests our voice, the writers our voice. We have to rise. I am a rescuer girl, asking the people to care.”
“Never tell them it’s ok if it happens to people. Just listen to them and say ‘hey, we are here for you and it’s gonna be ok.”
“I am turning 30. I am now 140 pounds. I am undetectable. I am not surviving, I am thriving.”
A portion of the ticket sales amounting to Php3,600 was donated to SAFER’s Quick Response Fund (QRF) which shall be used to help affected Filipino communities overcome the impacts of disasters and rebuild their lives more quickly.
